Homework Practice Supports SuccessThe need for multiple repetitions to develop new skills to an automatic level is well established. Given the number of hours per day a child spends with family versus therapist, opportunities for practice are multiplied when parents encourage speech practice outside of therapy sessions. Extending therapy targets into the child’s home environment promotes learning that goes beyond acquisition of skills. When skills are carried over to a functional task in the “real world” the child will experience the power of using their voice.
Practice using the word lists for your child's target sounds along with suggested daily activities on the calendars below. As the child masters sound productions at the one syllable word level begin increasing complexity (2+ syllable words, imitating sentences with target words, and in spontaneous conversation). For language development enrichment read, describe, imagine, play together, and don't forget to narrate as you and your child move through your day! Additional strategies are included on the 'At Home' page. Word Lists for Articulation Practice
